“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” - Jim Rohn

We know many high school, undergraduate and graduate students like you have BIG GOALS and even BIGGER DREAMS you want to accomplish to be the BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF.

However, we also know too many brilliant scholars who have struggled with what to do, and how to do it effectively because they:

  • lacked clarity, confidence, and consistency in their daily lives
  • didn’t know where to start to make a significant change
  • had too much on their plate
  • no accountability
  • didn’t know how to finish what they started to make a meaningful difference

Sound Familiar?

You probably know somebody like this, whose habits are inconsistent with the life that they say they want, and they are completely out of alignment with their goals and their dreams and probably don’t even know it, or know what to do about it. We thought, “Maybe they need someone to help them”. Maybe that person is you.

You Can Make Headlines Too!

The real motivation from the Scholar's Key is in Donovan's anecdotes. I remember reading the list of all the scholarships he'd gotten coming into college and being completely taken aback. I discovered the book as a overly ambitious college freshman, so when I saw the list, I immediately began Googling the names of the awards he'd gotten. I wasn't qualified for all of them, but during the search, I developed the scholarship inventory that my friends and I used for the rest of the year -- one that actually helped me earn enough money to cover my entire sophomore year (and then some!).  I couldn't believe it. The thing about these sort of endeavors is that you need to be in the right mindset to make it happen. The Scholars Key made me step back and really consider all the opportunities that were available to me. Once I saw that it could be done, I took off running with it. Wildly enough, I don't think I even finished the book. But I surely carried it around for the rest of the school year and the following summer, probably to remind myself to keep searching for the money. It worked.

“Compliance” is more about what students are told they must to do. “Engagement” is more about what you can do for your students. “Empowerment” is about helping students to figure out what they can do for themselves. - George Couros
